SUM OF MY PARTS

PRESS PLAY TO WATCH THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE SHOW

POP-UP GALLERY OCTOBER 25th 1 JONES STREET, SAN FRANCISCO 6 - 9 PM

The show is inspired by Messy's fascination with women. The dualities and complexities of females that have been shaped by a history of navigating double standards. Not in the sense that her work is an attempt to articulate or overcome an oppression, but to promote a narrative of empowerment, that this dynamic nature is what makes us incredible and powerful.

We are constantly faced with double standards;

Confident but not bitchy.
Sensitive but not hysterical.
Charming but not loud.
Independent but not single.
Sexy without sexual autonomy.

The list goes on and on.

The women she paints are fractured, in various ways. Fractured but not broken. They are reclaiming these various parts of themselves as their power rather than their weakness.Her work is a celebration. Maneuvering around these social norms ( while often frustrating) has inadvertently created a whole gender of mass manipulators. We know how to show up to the table and we know which version of ourselves to bring, to get what we want.

The show was up for three hours only in the penthouse gallery and rooftop of San Francisco’s historic Hibernia Bank building. In addition to showcasing Messy Beck’s work, Space Coyote hosted a cozy lounge on the rooftop terrace and sharing out of this world extract-infused pre-rolls. Space Coyote is a community-driven cannabis company making delicious infused joints rolled with cosmic concentrate collaborations. Each pre-roll is made with quality full bud and concentrates like ice water hash and live resin, crafted by extract artists. Space Coyote prioritizes giving back to their community and supporting emerging artists that align with their values.
